Reporting Concerns
All animals at Northwestern University must be handled, housed, treated, cared for, and transported in a humane and ethical manner in accordance with all regulations and university policies. Any person having reason to question the treatment of animals at Northwestern is encouraged to report incidents involving perceived non-compliance without fear of retaliation. Please see the University’s policy on Reporting and Investigating Suspected Noncompliance in Animal Research for further guidance.
The Reporting Concerns document is to be prominently posted in all approved animal use spaces.
For urgent concerns about the humane or ethical treatment of animals, please contact the Office for Research confidential phone line at 847-467-ACUC. No threat or reprisal will be made against anyone reporting perceived mistreatment or non-compliance.
All complaints and documentation will be brought to the attention of the IACUC.
If warranted, the concern will be discussed by the IACUC and appropriate measures taken. At the discretion of the IACUC, violations and recommendations for subsequent action will be forwarded to the vice president for research and, if warranted, to the Office of Laboratory Animal Welfare (OLAW).
Please download and print this document for posting at the laboratory level.
