REQUIREMENTS FOR PERSONNEL

  • Anyone seeking facility access (CCM) or having contact with animals must be listed on an approved protocol.
  • Basic IACUC Online Training (AALAS Learning Library) and Occupational Health Safety Program (OHSP) Enrollment are required for all principal investigators and research staff handling and caring for animals. Please see below.

TRAINING AND OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH

There are THREE necessary steps to getting started in the IACUC:

  1. IACUC ONLINE TRAINING
All training modules must be completed by EACH individual listed on an Animal Study Protocol (ASP) or an addendum prior to being submitted to the IACUC.
    1. After obtaining a NetID, visit the AALAS Learning Library site at https://sso.aalaslearninglibrary.org. Select “Northwestern University” as your organization, and login with your NetID and password. You will then be added to the NU training waitlist. (Use Firefox or Chrome when accessing AALAS Learning Library.)
    2. Complete the Training Request Form. The IACUC Office will create your Researcher Profile in our electronic protocol system.
    3. After creating your Researcher Profile, the IACUC Office will email confirmation and you will be able to log in to https://sso.aalaslearninglibrary.org again to complete the required courses.
Click on “Assignments” in the upper right-hand corner of the screen. All required courses will be listed, including required courses for each species. Upon completion of the courses, the IACUC Office will update your Researcher Profile.
    4. Please click the species below you will be working with to view a list of required AALAS Learning Library courses. Note that this does not take you to the AALAS Learning Library, but is simply a summary of required courses for your reference. (*For species which require hands-on CCM courses, please contact CCM for scheduling information.)
  2. OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH SAFETY PROGRAM (OHSP)
All individuals listed on an ASP must initiate the OHSP process prior to IACUC submission. This process may occur concurrently with the IACUC review and approval process. However, official approval will not be granted unless enrollment requirements are met. OHSP clearance must be renewed every three years. An annual TB test is required for any individual working with nonhuman primates (NHP).
